TOEFL Speaking: integrated tasks without mental translation

Why TOEFL speaking is different

On TOEFL iBT you speak into a microphone — no examiner. Most points come from integrated tasks: read + listen + speak in one chain.

A 15-second structure

  • Hook (5s): clear thesis
  • Body (35s): two reasons with lecture/passage detail
  • Close (5s): brief wrap-up

Common trap

Building sentences in your first language first — it eats time and hurts delivery. Vekna Speaking Lab trains thinking in English.
